Derrick Hodge contributed arrangements for Nas' One Mic: Hip Hop Culture Worldwide concert at the Kennedy Center back in March. The concert was held in the nation's capital as the legendary emcee celebrated the 20th anniversary of his seminal debut album, Illmatic. In addition to arranging songs for the National Symphony Orchestra, Derrick also had the privilege and honor to play alongside the nation's premiere orchestra alongside drummer Daru Jones. Derrick Tops Downbeat’s 62nd Annual Critics Poll
Downbeat's Annual Critics Poll showed DHodge lots of love this year by awarding him with 132 votes making Derrick a frontrunner in the "Rising Star: Electric Bass" category. Derrick's work with the Robert Glasper Experiment also got nods as the Experiment topped categories in "Beyond Artist or Group" and "Beyond Album" for the release of Black Radio 2. Derrick Produces Otis Brown III’s Debut Album ‘The Thought of You’
Blue Note records recently announced the release date for drummer Otis Brown III's debut album, The Thought of You, which Derrick co-produced. The album is set to be released on August, 26 on Revive/Blue Note, a new partnership between Revive Music and Blue Note Records. The Thought of You features a stellar line-up of musicians including Robert Glasper, Bilal, Gretchen Parlato, and many more.
